US: Soon you will be able to unlock your phone

Yes! It is technically illegal to “unlock” your phone to use it on other wireless networks according to the current laws. But in a twist of events the U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation to allow you to do just that. POTUS Barack Obama states that he is looking forward to signing the bill.

He also stated that these recent developments are aimed at providing the American citizen with alternatives to procure services from the provider that best suits their individual needs.  Mobile phone network providers have been known to “lock” their phones in order to push for contract renewals. Although this new law would work for Smartphones future considerations will likely seek to cover tablets and other devices that may be facing such challenges.
