Yes! It is technically illegal to “unlock” your phone
to use it on other wireless networks according to the current laws. But in a twist of events the U.S. House of Representatives approved legislation to
allow you to do just that. POTUS Barack Obama states that he is looking forward
to signing the bill.
He also stated that these recent developments are aimed at
providing the American citizen with alternatives to procure services from the
provider that best suits their individual needs. Mobile phone network providers have been known
to “lock” their phones in order to push for contract renewals. Although this new law would work for Smartphones
future considerations will likely seek to cover tablets and other devices that
may be facing such challenges.
